TheHellsbloodBride-144dpi

The Hellsblood Bride by Chuck Wendig

Series: Mookie Pearl #2

Genre: Urban-fantasy, Adult

The Plot

Yes, we’re going back deep underground for another twelve rounds with Mookie Pearl. Father, barkeep, former Mafioso, ruler of his subterranean crime-kingdom. The Organization is back, and they’ll do anything to get Mookie on board, but Mookie has gone legit, and it’s taking every ounce of effort for him to keep his new bar from crashing and burning. To top it all, his daughter is missing, and when Nora’s not in plain sight, that’s usually a sign of bad things to come! On one hand, the Organization. On the other, Nora. Why can’t Family ever be easy – ?

~ Goodreads~

Recently I read the first book in this series, The Blue Blazes (look out for my review shortly) and Chuck Wendig was definitely an author I have been following behind for quite a while, reading his Miriam Black series. He is honestly a really gritty, intense author that does not shy away from horror, violence and bad language and he makes his characters realistic, harsh and with many flaws, that at times does make them likeable. This series is honestly quite an imaginative and innovative one when it comes to the urban-fantasy genre and I am looking forward to the direction of the second novel and what Wendig will be doing with it.

bound by flames

Bound by Flames by Jeaniene Frost

Genre: Paranormal-Romance, Vampires, Adult

Series: Night Prince #3

Expected publication: January 2015

The Plot *mild spoilers for previous books

Play with fire, pay the price.
Leila’s years on the carnie circuit were certainly an education. What she didn’t learn: how to be a vampire, or how to be married to the most famous vampire of them all. Adjusting to both has Leila teetering on a knife edge between passion and peril, and now the real danger is about to begin…
Vlad must battle with a centuries-old enemy whose reach stretches across continents and whose strength equals his own. It isn’t like Vlad to feel fear, but he does…for Leila, because his enemy knows she is Vlad’s greatest weakness. As friend and foe alike align against him—and his overprotectiveness drives Leila away—Vlad’s love for his new bride could be the very thing that dooms them both…

~ Goodreads ~

I have been eagerly anticipating this book for absolutely ages, and I am still left waiting for such a long time. January.. why are you so far away?! Jeaniene Frost is my absolute guilty pleasure, and the Night Prince trilogy is slowly pushing the Night Huntress series off the top spot of favourite. If you have not read any of her books, I definitely recommend them because they have a little bit of everything, action, romance, quick wit/snark, and they are all around exciting and well-written in most part. I will almost certainly succumb in the next few months to re-reading the first two books again, so check them out, they can totally be read without reading the Night Huntress series; Once Burned & Twice Tempted

What Am I Waiting On?

Bronze Gods

Bronze Gods by A. A. Aguirre

Expected publication: April 30th 2013 by Ace

Hy Breasil is grimmer than it used to be.
Before the Architect closed the door, there were regular crossings, and a great war decimated both humans and Ferishers. The native fae who refused to treat with the invaders faded; their bodies withered and died, stranding them as hungry, angry spirits that haunt the countryside.
That means there’s always trouble brewing in Dorstaad.

Janus Mikani and Celeste Ritsuko work for the Criminal Investigation Department, keeping citizens safe from things that go bump in the night. He’s a hardboiled cynic with an uncanny sixth sense; she’s determined to justify her promotion as the first female detective in her division. Together, they’re trying to keep a black tide from drowning the city.

But when the second body surfaces, murdered with the same type of infernal device, the entire CID must face the truth. There’s a madman on the loose, twining magic and blood… and only Mikani and Ritsuko can unravel the intricate, lethal conspiracy before the Royale killer completes his macabre plan, unleashing old, forbidden magic on an unsuspecting populace. If the maniac succeeds, it could mean the end of everything…

Why Am I Waiting?

Well, again I saw this book spotlighted on a blog, Maja’s The Nocturnal Library here although I recall seeing a more recent post. Still, it sounds like a fabulous stempunk book that definitely has elements of Watson/Holmes for me.

But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.

Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?

Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.

Why Am I Waiting?

Well, just look at that cover. I first saw this highlighted over at The Midnight Garden here where there was a brilliant post on the background to the novel and how the authors went through lots of changes of title to end up with this one. However, now I have to say I don’t think anything else will fit. It’s so long away for December though and I do not want to wish that time away, but this book I will be awaiting eagerly.

What Am I Waiting On?

Zenn Scarlett

Zenn Scarlett by Christian Schoon

Expected Publication: 2nd May

Zenn Scarlett is a bright, determined, occasionally a-little-too-smart-for-her-own-good 17-year-old girl training hard to become an exoveterinarian. That means she’s specializing in the treatment of exotic alien life forms, mostly large and generally dangerous. Her novice year of training at the Ciscan Cloister Exovet Clinic on Mars will find her working with alien patients from whalehounds the size of a hay barn to a baby Kiran Sunkiller, a colossal floating creature that will grow up to carry a whole sky-city on its back.

But after a series of inexplicable animal escapes from the school and other near-disasters, the Cloister is in real danger of being shut down by a group of alien-hating officials. If that happens, Zenn knows only too well the grim fate awaiting the creatures she loves.

Now, she must unravel the baffling events plaguing her school, before someone is hurt or killed, before everything she cares about is ripped away from her and her family forever. To solve this mystery – and live to tell about it – Zenn will have to put her new exovet skills to work in ways she never imagined, and in the process learn just how powerful compassion and empathy can be.

Why Am I Waiting?

I’ve loved all of the books I’ve read by Strange Chemistry to date and find that they tend to publish really original works that are exciting, engaging and they have some real talent. So when I read about aliens in this one, I was incredibly excited and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Why Am I Waiting On It?

I saw this book spotlighted on a blog the other week as one to watch out for and when I looked it up it sounded just fabulous. I love the cover and the sound of this historical fiction looks fabulous and very sophisticated.

What Am I Waiting On?

The Ward

The Ward by Jordana Frankel

Expected Publication: April 30th 2013 by Katherine Tegen Books

Sixteen-year-old Ren is a daredevil mobile racer who will risk everything to survive in the Ward, what remains of a water-logged Manhattan. To save her sister, who is suffering from a deadly illness thought to be caused by years of pollution, Ren accepts a secret mission from the government: to search for a freshwater source in the Ward, with the hope of it leading to a cure.

However, she never expects that her search will lead to dangerous encounters with a passionate young scientist; a web of deceit and lies; and an earth-shattering mystery that’s lurking deep beneath the water’s rippling surface.

Why Am I Waiting?

This is the author’s debut book and it just sounds awesome. A little bit of dystopia and science-fiction mixed together and the talk of the “passionate young scientist” caught my attention. I like the idea of Manhattan being entirely swamped by water. And mystery? Count me in. The cover also kind of just does it for me too with the impact of the gold lettering and the blue water. And the girl in the A just looks great.

What Am I Waiting On?

the Menagerie

The Menagerie by Tui T. Sutherland and Kari Sutherland

Expected Publication: March 12th 2013 by HarperCollins

Logan Wilde is accidentally drawn into the mysterious, dangerous world of the Menagerie when he discovers a griffin hiding under his bed . . . and it leads him straight to the weirdest girl in seventh grade, Zoe Kahn.

Zoe is panicking. Her family has been guarding the Menagerie for centuries. If they don’t get the cubs back fast, the whole place will be shut down. To save the griffins’ lives, she’s willing to break all the rules, even if it means letting an outsider like Logan help. But the real mystery remains: Is someone trying to sabotage the Menagerie?

Who let the griffins out…and why?

Why Am I Waiting?

Well, I know some people are wary of Middle-Grade fiction, but I have no qualms about reading it if it sounds good. And make no mistake, The Menagerie sounds awesome. It is very rare that there are books about Griffins, so this one immediately caught my attention. It sounds really cool and I just love the cover. I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of this one!!

Nor is she at all prepared for the revelation he’s going to bring. Because Midwinter is approaching, and with it an eclipse that has the ability to unlock a Fae prison and begin the Wild Hunt.

A battle looms, and Aileana is going to have to decide how much she’s willing to lose – and just how far she’ll go to avenge her mother’s murder.

Why Am I Waiting?

Historical. The cover. And Fantasy? What more do I need from a book. This just looks all around awesome and the Scottish setting caught my eye.

With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity.

Why Am I Waiting?

I am so excited for this book that I want it now this very instance. I finished the first book a couple of weeks back and I didn’t realise stupidly that it would be a series. I expected it to be a one of spin-off, but now I need this book and March is just too far away. Night Prince reminded me why Frost is one of my favourite authors, so I can’t wait to see the direction Frost takes Vlad in Twice Tempted and just look at this cover. The man is on fire, literally!
